A First for the Nabe: Best of the Bay's Inaugural Community Impact Award

For 25 years, San Francisco Magazine's Best of the Bay has celebrated the people and places that make this city special. This year, to mark that milestone, the magazine started a new tradition: a Community Impact Award recognizing an organization making a lasting difference in the lives of San Franciscans. We are proud and humbled to share that the very first one was awarded to the Nabe.

A New Tradition Begins

The award, presented in partnership with Amazon, was created to honor an organization whose work reaches beyond its own walls. At the ceremony, Amazon's Dean Allsopp spoke about what makes the Nabe unique to Potrero Hill: nearly 120 years of showing up for our neighbors, and more than two decades of steady leadership from Executive Director Edward Hatter, who has strengthened the organization so it can keep serving the community through whatever challenges come next.

Accepting the award, Edward kept it simple: the Nabe is about making a lasting impact in the lives of San Franciscans and the communities we serve. "The Nabe has been around for 119 years," he told the crowd, "and it's really nice to be the first one to receive this."

This Award Belongs to All of Us

Recognition like this doesn't happen because of any one person. It happens because of the students who come through our doors every afternoon, the volunteers and staff who show up day after day, the partners who stand with us, and the families of Potrero Hill and southeast San Francisco who make the Nabe what it is.
